Rogers was born and raised in Florida. He grew up free diving and spear
fishing on both coasts. In the late 60s he became an FBI Agent and moved
away from Florida. In 1973, Bill resigned from the Bureau, moved back to
Florida and started a holster manufacturing business in Jacksonville. With
in a few years he had added an ammunition business, target business, and a
shooting school. Even with an impossible schedule he made time for his real
love, spear fishing. Bill is a true inventor. He grew up in a machine shop
and has invented products all of his adult life. He holds dozens of patents
that most of his businesses are based on. As a natural progression, Bill
began to experiment with different types of spear points. In the late 70s
several spear fishing trips to the Bahamas convinced Bill that the key to
using a pole spear was the tip.
The Bahamas do not allow any type of triggered spear gun, so the pole spear is
the standard tool. If the pole spear is heavy enough to have penetration
energy it is to slow to capture many of the faster reef fish. If the pole
is light and quick enough to hit the faster fish, it does not have enough
energy to fully penetrate the fish with the conventional tips. Bill solved
the problem with the original Sea Stinger 1, Patent No. 4839979. It was
light, streamlined and sharp and it worked perfectly with the lighter,
quicker pole spears. He quickly modified some of the units to work with
conventional spear guns. Bill did not have intentions of manufacturing or
marketing the Sea Stinger. He only made enough units for himself and his
brother-in-law. However, everyone that went spear fishing with Bill asked
if they could get several of the Stingers. Those people showed their
friends and those people showed their friends and so on until Bill was
forced to start another company. Bill was interested in searching for
better solutions for hunting in the sea, hence the name Sea Search Inc. In
1985 Bill sold most of his businesses except the
Rogers
Shooting School and Sea Search Inc. He started an
engineering-design consulting firm, Rog-Con Inc., and continues today doing
research and development primarily in the field of law enforcement
equipment.
In the past few years he has
redesigned the Stinger 1 and designed the Stinger 2. He has spent the last
two years designing the ultimate pole spear. He has used carbon fiber
technology and computer assisted engineering to develop the product but has
relied on personal testing to prove the design. The Sea Stinger Pole Spear
is in its own class, well above other pole spear designs. In the hands of
an experienced person, the Sea Stinger Pole Spear can compete with a
standard spear-gun for putting fish in the boat. Bill continues to test and
improve on his designs as time permits. This season, fall of 06, he has
released the new Sea Stinger 1 and 2. These new products with their
advanced features are proving to be major improvements over an already
superior product. If you have any questions or comments about any of the
products, please feel free to contact him using the e-mail link.
