Will the Sea Stinger spear tips install on my speargun or pole spear?
If you have a 6mm threaded end on your speargun or pole spear shaft, our Sea Stinger spear tips will install on your gun or spear.
Can other tips, such as a Paralyzer or Trident, be installed on the Lightning Rod Pole Spear?
Yes, as long as the tip in question has a 6mm female threaded connector.
Can the Sea Stinger be installed on a 5/16-24 threaded shaft?
Not without a 6mm to 5/16-24 adapter. (COMING SOON!!)
I am going spearfishing, and I don't know which Sea Stinger tip to order. Which do you recommend?
It all depends on what fish you intend to target, and the dive situation. If you are going after smaller, faster fish with a Pole Spear or sling, the Sea Stinger 1 is the tip you should be using. However, if you are using a speargun, or are hunting large fish over 15 lbs, you want to use the Sea Stinger 2. Often you find yourself in a situation where you may not know exactly what fish you may run into, in which case you would want to prepare for the largest fish you may encounter and use the Sea Stinger 2. The Sea Stinger 2 will work well on a pole spear or sling, albeit at a slightly reduced velocity compared to the Sea Stinger 1.
I prefer a fixed power band connection on my pole spear. Can your Lightning Rod Pole Spear power band be fixed in one location?
Absolutely! We had blue-water spear-fishers in mind when we designed the Lightning Rod. Simply remove the end-cap from the pole spear, slide the Cam/power band assembly off the end of the shaft, untie the power band from the Cam, and tie it through the large hole in the end-plug of the pole spear. Refer to the pole spear manual for more detail on this procedure.
A grouper bent or broke my last pole spear. Will the Lightning Rod Pole Spear do better in that same situation?
No pole spear will survive a large grouper taking off with it into hole or under a ledge into a situation where the pole spear is pried against a reef or structure. Aluminum and steel spears or shafts will bend, and composite shafts will fracture. This is non-warranty damage, and should be avoided. Plan your shots carefully, maintain control of your pole spear, and aim your shot to disable the fish as quickly as possible.
Your equipment seems a bit on the expensive side. Why is that?
Quite simply, you get what you pay for. We designed our products with maximum effectiveness in mind. You can find cheaper pole spears and tips out there, and perhaps if you don't plan on going spear-fishing more that once in your life, those products may work for you. However, cheap products quickly reveal their drawbacks in the form of lost fish, lost opportunities, ruined trips, and lost or damaged equipment. If spearfishing is a sport you regularly appreciate, you will quickly realize the advantages of our products as a long term investment. Why put an expensive and time sensitive spearfishing trip at the mercy of cheap equipment?
Can travel on the airlines with my Lightning Rod Pole Spear?
Yes. The Lightning Rod Pole Spear was designed to break-down and stow into a rugged PVC travel tube, compliant with the baggage guideline of most airlines. Check your airlines specific baggage requirements before checking in. Make sure you a aware of the regulations of the jurisdiction you are travelling to concerning spearfishing equipment and pole spears in particular.
I shot a fish and the cable came free. I lost the fish and my Tip and Cable. What happened, and what can I do?
You likely had not locked the cable with the knurled retainer properly. If the slot on the round, knurled retainer is aligned with the ball-end termination of the cable, it is in the unlocked position, and will come free when pulled on. Make the the knurled retainer is rotated so the the slot is not aligned with the ball end of the cable. Be sure to check this before each shot is made. Refer to the Sea Stinger manual, or watch the video at the bottom of the Sea Stinger 1 page to see how this feature works.
